Keshia Chante’s family moved to Brampton when she was 14. She graduated from Fletchers Meadow Secondary School in 2006 and went on to build her music career.

Keshia was 6 years old when she first performed, receiving a standing ovation for her rendition of Dear Mama by Tupac Shakur. Through talent shows, she got the attention of a local DJ who, in 2002, sent a video of her performance to SonyMusic Canada. After performing for music executives, she was signed to the label exclusively to release her music in Canada.

Keshia Chante is connected to another Brampton Arts Walk of Fame inductee Director X, who directed one of her first music videos, Bad Boy.

Biography

Born in Ottawa in 1988, Keshia Chanté is a singer, songwriter, actress, model, philanthropist, fashion icon and TV personality. At the age of 14 she moved to Brampton and graduated from Fletchers Meadow Secondary School in 2006. Ms. Chanté was signed at the age of 14 releasing her first two albums through SONY BMG Music/SONY Urban USA, and Universal Records for her third and most recent album “Night & Day”. She has opened for the likes of Destiny’s Child and Alicia Keys and has collaborated with top artists, songwriters and producers such as Foxy Brown, Drake, Neyo, Freeway, Danja, The Clutch, Rockwilda, Young Gav and Makeba Riddick to name just a few. She was a resident judge on YTV’s singing competition reality series “The Next Star”, Youth Ambassador for CANFAR (Cdn Foundation for AIDS Research) and has been the face of Sony’s Cybershot Digital Camera, along with being in campaigns for Pepsi, Contiki Tours, Ecko Red, and Ontario Tourism. Keshia’s awards include 2003 Canadian Urban Music Award for Best R&B/Soul Single and a Gold record for "Shook (The Answer)", 2003 Canadian Radio Music Award for "Best New Solo Artist" (CHR), 2004 Canadian Urban Music Award for Best New Artist, 2004 Canadian Urban Music Award for Video Of The Year for "Bad Boy", 2004 Canadian Urban Music Award for Fans Choice, 2004 Rising Star Award for Rising Star of the Year, 2005 Juno Award for "R&B/Soul Recording Of The Year" and 2005 Canadian Urban Music Award for "Video Of The Year" for "Does He Love Me?", along with numerous other nominations.
